Types of complaint
Eligible complaints
The defendant must be an establishment licensed by the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai (DET) and the complaint submitted must be within the jurisdiction of the Department.
Ineligible complaints
Complaints that fall outside jurisdiction of the Business Protection Department include:
- Purchases from a store in another emirate
- Complaints about telecommunications and internet services
- Real estate complaints, real estate regulation, and real estate lease contracts
- Food spoilage or expiration
- Cheques
- Technical matters that require consulting an expert
- Compensation
- Bank complaints
- Counterfeit goods
- Insurance companies
- Cybercrime complaints (such as unlicensed websites)
- Fraud
- Tourist packages
- Complaints pending before the court
- Complaints against partners on the same licence
